Norman D. Akers – President/Treasurer

Norm joined the Lawhon organization in 1969 as an estimator. A year later, he was promoted to Vice-President and Chief Estimator. In 1987, Norm assumed the position of President and became the organization’s major shareholder. During his time at Lawhon, Norm has personally managed many of the company’s projects.

Prior to joining Lawhon, the Bedford, Iowa native owned his own residential construction business and later worked as an estimator for a Springfield, Illinois construction firm.

Norm currently serves on the Labor – Management committee of the St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce and is a church trustee. Past community involvement includes membership on the Rosecrans airport board, Interfaith Community Services board, Chamber of Commerce Community Development committee, and church building committee.

Norm and his wife Karen are the parents of three children, Rick, Roger, and Julie.

 

 

 

 

Zane Brickey – Vice President/General Manager/Secretary

Zane began his career with Lawhon as a carpenter/millwright in 1961 and progressed through the ranks to become Vice-President and General Manager in 1985, dual positions he continues to occupy today. Prior to assuming his current duties, Zane was instrumental in developing a specialty division within Lawhon that focused on plant maintenance and manufacturing/process equipment installation.

Zane attended the University of Kansas where he studied Architectural Engineering.

In addition to his duties at Lawhon, Zane served in the Naval Reserve for more than 30 years, retiring as Commanding Officer/Officer in Charge of Reserve Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 15, (Detachment 1315). Zane currently serves on the construction engineering technology advisory board at Missouri Western State College. In the past, Zane has served as president of Carpenters Local #110, president of the St. Joseph Construction Association, and as a member of the Building and Fire Prevention Code board of appeals for the City of St. Joseph.

Zane and his wife Lonnie have three children, Mike, Randy, and Nancy.

 

  Rick Akers – Project Manager/Estimator

Rick joined Lawhon in 1979. He began his career with Lawhon as a carpenter and over the next two decades progressed to the position of project superintendent. In 1998, he transitioned to the position of Project Manager/Estimator, a position he continues to occupy today.

Rick attended Missouri Western State College where he studied construction engineering technology.

Rick is currently serving his community as a member of the Electrical Standards Examining & Appeals board. He holds several positions at Interfaith Community Services including Vice-president, Chairman of the Building Safety Committee, and finance committee member

Rick and his wife Sheryl are the parents of two sons, Ryan and Kevin.

 

  Mike Brickey – Project Manager/Estimator

Mike joined Lawhon in 1997 as a Project Manager/Estimator and continues in that position today. He began his career with Duke Power in 1982 as an engineer in the Construction Division. He held positions of increasing responsibility with Duke and was promoted to the position of Manager of Construction for the Gulf Coast and Mid-Continent areas in 1992, a position he held until leaving to join the Lawhon organization in 1997.

The St. Joseph, Missouri, native graduated from Missouri Western State College in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science degree in construction engineering technology. He is currently pursuing his MBA from Northwest Missouri State University.

Mike currently serves on the Building and Fire Prevention Code board of appeals for the City of St. Joseph. He additionally serves as a member of the Properties board at his church and is President of the St. Joseph Construction Association for the year 2002.

Mike and his wife Susan have two teenage sons, Matthew and Bradley.

 

  Eddie Griggs – Project Manager/Estimator

Eddie joined Lawhon in 1973 as an Estimator and Assistant Project Manager focusing primarily on satisfying those clients with small to medium sized projects. Since that time, Eddie has been tasked with managing the larger projects including the recently completed $36 million Western Reception Diagnostic Correctional Center facility and the additions to and remodel of four local elementary schools and the three local public high schools.

The Vandalia, Missouri, native graduated from Missouri Western State College in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil & building construction technology.

Eddie is a past member of the Avenue City elementary school board and is active in his church, serving as the current chairman of the Facility Planning committee and member of the Building and Deacon boards.

Eddie and his wife Marilyn have two grown daughters, Karin and Karla.
